I'm in the UK, but the video player tells me I'm not. Why?

When you access the internet, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or mobile network assigns an Internet Protocol (IP) address to your router or modem. This IP address tells us where you are located.

Channel 5 is only licensed to make content available to UK users. If our player doesn't recognise your IP address as one from within the UK, then you won't be able to stream our shows and clips.

If your IP address is wrong

Occasionally, the IP address we are given does not accurately represent your location.

You can check your IP address at www.whatismyip.com.

Your IP may be reported incorrectly if you are:

  • Using a proxy server or VPN
  • Close to the border of two countries
  • Near the coast
  • Travelling
  • Connected to some business Wi-Fi networks

Initially, we recommend that you reboot your device and router to obtain an accurate IP address.

If this isn't successful, please contact your ISP or mobile network to find out why your IP address doesn't accurately reflect your location.
